UKZN Professor Ranked South Africa’s Top Engineering and Technology Scientist
Professor Amir Mohammadi of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has achieved international recognition after being ranked the number one scientist in South Africa and 316th globally in the 2026 Research.com Ranking of the World’s Top Scientists in Engineering and Technology.
Mohammadi, a professor of Chemical Engineering, was recognised by the reputable international scientific ranking platform, which evaluates researchers based on the impact and quality of their publications, citation performance and overall contribution to advancing knowledge within their fields. The ranking is widely regarded as a benchmark for research excellence and scholarly influence across the global scientific community.
Mohammadi received the prestigious 2026 Research.com Engineering and Technology Leader Award in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, leadership and sustained excellence in the field of engineering and technology.
The accolade highlighted Mohammadi’s significant contributions to several important areas of research, including energy and fuels, gas hydrates, chemical thermodynamics and environmental chemical engineering.
“Professor Mohammadi’s work has not only advanced scientific understanding but has also generated practical applications for industry, helping to address real-world challenges through innovative engineering solutions,” said UKZN Dean and Head of the School of Engineering, Professor Glen Bright.
“Over the course of his distinguished career, Professor Mohammadi has established himself as one of the leading researchers in his discipline, producing influential research that has attracted widespread international attention and citations. His scholarly output and collaborative work have contributed to the development of new knowledge and technologies that support sustainable industrial processes, energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.”
