A UKZN Master of Commerce student specialising in Supply Chain Management, Mr Christopher Djuma, was recognised as one of the Top 10 most employable graduates in the GradStar Competition which he regards as a life-changing journey that has propelled his aspirations.

The GradStar Competition, designed to connect top graduates with employers, provides a platform for ambitious students to showcase their potential while networking with industry leaders and peers.

‘I joined the competition to make myself known in the world of work and connect with employers and fellow graduates as I understood that networking is essential for potential employment opportunities, sustainable relationships and personal growth,’ said Djuma

In the competition, participants undergo a multi-phase process beginning with an initial assessment, which narrows the pool to the Top 500 students. From there, candidates are tasked with submitting further assessments, including a self-introduction video and a personal development plan, which ultimately lead to the selection of the Top 100.

For those who make it to the Top 100, the experience culminates in an all-expenses-paid trip to Johannesburg for three days of workshops, activities and networking. Out of this group, the Top 10 are awarded for their outstanding achievements and potential.

‘This recognition has not only identified me as an inspiration to others but has also enhanced my personal brand,” he said. “It has instilled a higher sense of self-motivation and confidence, reminding me that nothing is impossible if you put your energy, mind and focus into it.’ ‘It’s an amazing experience and a lifelong opportunity, the process is not just about competition; it’s about growth, learning, and building confidence.’

Despite success in the competition, Djuma remains grounded and committed to his values. ‘I want to continue inspiring others to achieve greater success and to remind them that taking risks is essential to growth,’ he added.
