UKZN Remains Among the Best in SA and Africa

The University of KwaZulu-Natal remains among the top universities in South Africa and the continent according to the latest academic ranking undertaken by University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) for 2024.

The URAP ranking system, which primarily focuses on academic quality, ranks UKZN as the fourth-best university in the country.

Corporate Relations Executive Director, Ms Normah Zondo, said the University is pleased with the latest ranking. ‘These rankings confirm our standing as one of the top universities in South Africa and on the continent. They are also a testament to the hard work our staff, students, and stakeholders continue to put in,’ she said.

Other ranking organisations have also listed UKZN among the top five universities in the country and Africa. The 2023 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) ranked the Institution in the top 2.4%, and fourth on the continent. This placed UKZN in a 478^th position out of 20 531 universities assessed globally.

Last year, EduRank also placed UKZN among the top five universities in the country and the top six in Africa. EduRank’s factors are based on research outputs, non-academic prominence, and alumni influence.

Zondo said the University is committed to building on its current and past achievements to maintain its mission of inspiring greatness in all areas. ‘We are proud of the recent ranking of our University at a global level. This is well received by all stakeholders as the rankings place our Institution on the world map. It is clear that UKZN is making great strides in various areas,’ she said.
