Twin Triumph: Durban Sisters Celebrate LLB Graduation Together

Double celebration for the Januk family as twin sisters, Alka and Jhanvi, graduated with their LLB degrees cum laude.

Twin sisters Ms Alka and Ms Jhanvi Januk graduated with their Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees – marking not just the end of a rigorous academic journey, but the beginning of two parallel paths forged in dedication and a shared dream of justice.

At 23 years old, the Durban-born sisters have become symbols of what it means to commit fully to a purpose. While their personalities may differ – Alka leans toward quiet reflection while Jhanvi thrives in dynamic environments.

Though their journeys were intertwined, their motivations were deeply personal. For Alka, the decision to study Law was rooted in a desire to uplift others and spark social change.

‘I pursued an LLB degree driven by a genuine desire to empower others. My goal has always been to use the Law as a tool to effect meaningful change, advocate for the rights of the vulnerable, and contribute positively to my community,’ she explained.

Jhanvi, too, was drawn to the Law’s power to shape lives, but found herself energised by the intellectual challenges the field offers.

‘I discovered early on that I had a strong aptitude for understanding and applying legal concepts. I wanted to build a career that not only challenged me academically, but also allowed me to make a meaningful impact,’ she said.

The sisters attribute much of their work ethic to their upbringing. Watching their family navigate life’s challenges with grace and determination left a lasting impression on them both, with their greatest inspiration coming from their mother – an attorney.

‘Seeing our family members work hard really inspired us to do the same. They are thrilled with our achievement, and we have definitely made them proud,’ they said.

Striking a balance between lectures, study sessions and extracurricular responsibilities was no easy feat. There were sacrifices – weekends lost to case law, holidays traded for internships – but each step solidified their purpose.

Looking ahead, Alka is preparing to complete her practical vocational training and ultimately become an admitted attorney, while Jhanvi is already immersed in the legal world, currently serving her articles of clerkship at Cox Yeats Attorneys.
