Songbird Zethe at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presented songbird Zethe on Wednesday 10 July 2019.

Zethe – born Zethembiso Mdletshe – is the 2017 Vodacom NXT LVL winner, a competition sponsored by Vodacom to discover raw talent that they could assist to get to the next level and become big in the music industry.

She was born in 1993 in Ngwelezane, Empangeni and is now based in Johannesburg. She graduated with a degree in Music from UKZN in 2016, having majored in Jazz. This year, she is working on her first album and collaborations with more artists.

Zethe was voted the favourite artist out of five contestants. She has performed on some of the biggest stages in South Africa including the SAMAS25 and is the new face of Newtown Junction Mall.

With this show, Zethe launches her brand new single. Her debut single: Zazi, was realised on 25 April 2018. The saying that dynamite comes in small packages is witnessed whenever this sensational afro/soul/jazz and house singer takes to the stage. Her uniquely powerful voice stands out and lingers long after she has gone.

Zethe performed with Freeman Gumede (bass), Lesedi Tlholoe (drums), and Obakeng Thamage at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on the Howard College campus.
