The Department of Dermatology hosted a successful UKZN General Practitioner Dermatology Summer Update in partnership with Adcock Ingram on the Medical School campus in Durban.
Co-ordinators of the event, Professor Ncoza Dlova and Professor Anisa Mosam, said the Update was the first of many to follow.
More than 200 people from all over KwaZulu-Natal attended the two-day Update which featured about 18 presentations from both academic and private dermatologists with subject matter including common skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis; HIV and skin; hair loss; skin cancer; minor surgical procedures, and cosmetic and pigmentation disorders.
Dlova’s and Mosam’s new book: Dermatology Comprehensive Handbook for Africa was launched at the gathering.
Said MBChB student Mr Sibonga Lobengula: ‘The book is excellent. We hope to have it as a prescribed textbook that can be used as a reference.’
According to a feedback survey, most participants found the update refreshing and useful and suggested it should become an annual event to assist them in staying up to date with new developments in dermatology.
