The Alumni Relations Office hosted a successful Durban Alumni Association Tour to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) at Durban Point offering alumni a unique opportunity to learn more about the important work done by the Institute in ensuring safety on South African waters.
The tour was led by the public relations/guest speaker for NSRI (Point: Durban) Ms Helen Wienand, who welcomed guests and presented an informative overview of the organisation. Guests learned about the NSRI’s wide network of over 50 rescue stations around the country as well as its community outreach programmes, safety education initiatives and the vital role played by dedicated volunteers and supporters.
Following the presentation, guests had the opportunity to view the rescue boats up close. This hands-on experience allowed them to gain a better understanding of the equipment and operations involved in sea rescue missions. Guests were able to walk on and around the vessels, making the experience both engaging and memorable.
The visit concluded with refreshments served in the galley, where guests had time to ask questions and engage further with the NSRI team. The relaxed setting encouraged meaningful conversations and a deeper appreciation of the organisation’s life-saving work.
Overall, the tour was an enriching experience, highlighting the impact of the NSRI and the importance of water safety. The Alumni Relations Office looks forward to hosting more engaging and informative events in the future.
