The Advice Desk for the Abused in conjunction with the University of KwaZulu-Natal will be offering a free 1 day workshop on the 28 March 2015 focusing on Intimate Partner / Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Crisis Intervention. The Desk invites all members of the public who are interested in volunteering their time and skills at the Advice Desk to attend the workshop. Students and professionals who would like to acquire experience in the area of crisis counselling are encouraged to attend. The workshop will be covering various themes relating to social and psychological insights on GBV, legal frameworks, counselling strategies and educational interventions. Sessions will be facilitated by academics from UKZN, DUT and professionals from the Gender NGO community.   

The Advice Desk for the Abused, a registered, self-funding, non-profit, public-benefit NGO was founded in 1986 and to date has handled in excess of 200 000 reported cases of domestic violence. It has provided crisis intervention, support services and empowerment not only to the victims but also to the perpetrators of violence.
