The University of KwaZulu-Natal invites you to a public Webinar on:

‘NAMING THE UNNAMED STRUCTURES AND COMMON SPACES IN TERMS OF NATIONAL IMPERATIVE AND RATIONALE’

The webinar will discuss the naming process and chart the way forward for the university community to participate and make the process successful. The naming of unnamed structures and common spaces must be seen in terms of the Naming and Donor Recognition Policy (2018). This policy should be read together with its Naming and Donor Recognition Guidelines. This policy was established to ensure that any entity or facility that is named at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) honours individuals of extraordinary achievement and whose accomplishment are of enduring distinction and value. In addition, naming opportunities may be granted in honour of an individual who has made a significant and far-reaching impact on the University through: Extraordinary public service or service to the University without consideration of monetary contribution (2018).

The initiative supports a social-cohesion, diversity and transformation. It sends a message of unity to our University community (staff and students), stakeholders and donor communities. The initiative is a responsive approach from a higher educational institution operating within a social system that requires tangible shifts and changes from a historic colonial and racially segregated past. It forms part of the mission, vision and values of UKZN and provides an opportunity for our institution to reflect transformation and diversity. It embodies the values of responsibility, transformation, respect for culture, academic freedom, integrity and cooperation.
