Brief vitae
for Professor C. Jerry Nelson (January, 2013):

C. Jerry Nelson
received his B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University of Minnesota and the Ph.D.
at the University of Wisconsin in 1966. After a post-doctoral appointment at
Cornell University, he joined the University of Missouri faculty in 1967,
retired in 2007 and currently is Professor Emeritus of Plant Science.

Dr. Nelson has
written 28 book chapters, edited seven books and published more than 250
research papers mainly on growth and development of forage crops. He co-edited
the major Forages textbook in the US. For the last 15 years he has focused on
international food issues.

Dr. Nelson has
received numerous teaching and research awards including the prestigious Siehl
Prize from the University of Minnesota. He served as President of the Crop
Science Society of America (1988), the American Society of Agronomy (1996), and
was the first President of the International Crop Science Society (2000-2004).

Although retired
from teaching and research, he frequently visits countries in Asia and Africa
to give lectures, meet students and develop research and education partnerships
on a broad range of agricultural and environmental issues.
