Dear Staff and Students
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Professor Jonathan Blackledge cordially invites you to attend a seminar on BRINGING ABOUT A STEP CHANGE IN ORGANISATIONAL RENEWAL IN UNIVERSITIES by Professor Calie Pistorius, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hull, United Kingdom.
Date: 6 May 2016
Time: 13:00 – 14:00
Venue: Senate Chamber, Westville Campus, UKZN
Universities across the globe operate in increasingly competitive national and international higher education landscapes, requiring their institutional strategies to explicitly address institutional competitiveness and the search for competitive advantages. Organisations routinely embrace the notion of continuous improvement as an essential element of enhancing performance. From an innovation viewpoint, continuous improvements are typically manifested as incremental changes. From time to time, however, it is also necessary to make step changes – radical innovations – in organisational strategy, investment, structure and operations in order to bring about a step change in organisational performance. This seminar considers the theory of innovation dynamics as a driver for bringing about step change in organisational renewal in universities. Interdisciplinary themes as a manifestation of the notion of ‘knowledge knows no boundaries’ is explored as an example.
