The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents The Riley G Collective part 2 on Wednesday 31 July 2019 at 18h00.

Riley G is a Durban based drummer that performs with various bands playing different styles of music such as Jazz, Pop, Latin Jazz, House and Soul. He is currently the drum teacher at Kearsney College and also teaches music privately. Riley has performed with many artists such as Jan Lundgren, Hugh Masekela, Raphael Clarkson and Lloyd Cele to name a few.

Riley is influenced by music greats such as Chick Corea, Dave Weckl, Elvin Jones, Antonio Sanchez, John Pattitucci and Steve Gadd. As part of his Masters degree, this is the second band that Riley G has put together. This band consists not only of brilliant musicians, but they are also of composers and arrangers in their own right.

The bands sound can be described as electric/acoustic, rooted in the realm of Jazz with African and European influences. The band will perform Riley’s compositions as well as some of his arrangements of jazz standards and popular music.
