This seminar presents a type of health economic model called a cost-outcomes model which can be used to compare and evaluate different scenarios (usually the status quo versus something new such as a new treatment, new pharmaceutical, new way of doing things). This seminar will therefore be of interest to anyone involved in evaluating a new intervention/strategy versus what is presently done. The Dx Diagnostics Model was designed to evaluate the impact of adopting the Dx test into the public health sector in South Africa from a public health perspective. Dx is used for the diagnosis of TB in adults and children, a repeat test can indicate resistance. A cost outcomes model has been developed in Microsoft Excel which compares current practice (Xpert, culture, LPA;DST; CXR) to a strategy of adopting Dx as an add-on or replacement diagnostic test.
