The Centre for Civil Society cordially invites you to the seminar :-
Title: The economic consequences of Durban’s port expansion
Presenter: Jack Dwyer
Date: Wednesday, 25 June 2014
Time: 12h30 – 14h00
Venue: CCS Seminar Room, 6th floor of Memorial Tower Building, UKZN Howard College
Topic: The main Durban port users and the local community were consulted to determine the requirements and functions of a port, for the purposes of making Durban’s harbour more productive, profitable, and commercially, community and environmentally sustainable. Many seaport functions can be improved for efficiency, both for current port modernisation and future physical port expansions. Will Durban’s current modernisation and expansion process improve the prospects of Durban’s maritime and municipal economy, and will it also provide user and community benefits that exceed displacement, opportunity and other costs? Will other stakeholder-identified port requirements and concerns be addressed?
Presenter: Jack Dyer is a post-graduate student with the Unit for Maritime Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.Posted on
